Looking at Your Gums

May 9, 2013 / drs.eidelson / Gums
0

gumsYour teeth and gums are only partially visible. This is an example of how a healthy tooth may look. Notice the gum line. A receding gum can be cause for concern. Gums, when healthy appear pink and hold your teeth in place. When a gum becomes inflamed and infected it can recede, making your tooth loose and eventually loosening to the point of tooth loss. This is why dentists stress the importance of routine visits to the dentist office and daily flossing and cleaning.

Go to your dentist :

  • if your gums are bleeding on a regular basis
  • if your gums hurt or are inflamed after eating or brushing and flossing
  • if your gums appear to be receding

These could all be signs of Periodontal Disease or Gum Disease and a dentist can evaluate what you need to stop the negative effects of the disease.
