Veneers are an increasingly popular cosmetic dentistry technique. Commonly referred to as Hollywood Veneers, there are many rumors out there… Let’s demystify some of them!
FACT: Veneers were invented in California by dentist Dr. Charles Pincus. They were very temporary and often fell off in a very short time. Veneers were developed as a fast way to change the appearance of actors’ teeth, hence the Hollywood association.
FACT: Veneers can be custom matched to any color/shade of white, mimicking the rest of your teeth and to your skin tone and overall desire tooth color.
FACT: Actually, veneers are made with actual porcelain. Why? The enamel of your teeth and dental porcelain are the same in appearance and the way they react to light. Porcelain is semi-translucent and it has a similar white shine to that of teeth. Also, porcelain is used because of its strength, stain resistance and durability.
FACT: Getting veneers does not have to be a permanent treatment. In fact, they are completely reversible because there’s no grinding down of healthy tooth structure below (in most cases). Your natural teeth are intact and strong if you ever decide to remove them.
