Have a cavity? White Tooth Fillings can make your smile look healthy & natural

chairNot so much time has passed, when the standard material to fill a tooth cavity was silver, which when you opened your mouth, used to be apparent. Today, we have better options and can use the latest advancements in cosmetic dentistry to give you a natural look to your teeth. “White fillings” or “tooth colored fillings” are composite resin materials which are safer, can last longer and are more effective. If you do have cavities in your teeth, the use of these materials will make your teeth look and feel completely natural as we can mix custom colors to match your teeth.

Composites are more costly than silver fillings, but most dental insurance plans do cover the cost of the composite up to the price of a silver filling and require the patient to pay the difference.

What are the advantages of having white fillings?

◌ they look natural and are virtually invisible
◌ they blend and match the color of your other teeth
◌ they help to insulate and lessen sensitivity to extreme temperatures
◌ they bond very effectively to teeth and last a long time
◌ they provide excellent support  and help prevent breakages in your remaining tooth

Ultimately, your healthy smile depends upon attention to excellent oral care and routine visits to your dentist. Your best weapon against tooth decay is to follow a regimen of  brushing your teeth at least twice daily, flossing and rinsing with antiseptic mouth rinse. No smoking and a healthy diet can also positively affect your chances of having a healthy smile as well.

Here is a photograph of an actual patient before and after. You’ll notice that the first photograph on the left shows two silver fillings which appear unnatural and stand out. The patient was unhappy with her smile and wanted a more natural look. We used the white composite fillings which made the fillings look almost invisible. Her smile is now completely natural.
